Individual
classrooms:
"Sculpt a Story":
This
hour-long program can be best summarized by the Chinese Proverb: “Tell
me
and I'll forget;
show
me and I may remember; involve
me and I'll understand.” To demonstrate The
Writing Process, I share a favorite toy from my childhood. Soon, the class
is immersed in The Writing Process by USING this toy while learning to
nurture their CREATOR and banish their CRITIC- until the revision stage!
This hands-on activity is a HIT with students and teachers!
(Students will have a finished project to take home that day and I'll supply
a parent info letter, too!) When we talk, I'll give you the whole scoop and
let you know what materials are needed. WARNING: You're going to want to
join in on the fun! Optional: Introduction to Freedom Journals. NOTE: In
you're having me in for a K-8 visit, you may want to have this program for
grades 6-8. All classes left with follow-up activity.
NOTE: If you're having me in for a
K-8 visit, you may want to have this program for grades 6-8.
Day 2:
In the classrooms:
(60-minutes)
Let the writing begin!
SOME ACTIVITIES WE MAY FOCUS ON: Creating Memorable Characters, Wow Words,
The Importance of Lead Sentences, Raising the Tension, SOS Stories, and
Progression Stories. Will work as whole group as well as in small groups
for peer editing. (Will discuss which ones are right for your class ahead of
time.) Class left with quick, yet meaningful, follow-up activity.
Day 3:
In the classrooms:
(60-minutes)
Ready? Set?
Write! Putting it all together! Continue writing/revising SOS Stories OR
Students use their character sketches, tension charts, and lead sentences
and craft stories while I meet briefly with each student so "gems" can be
shared. Goals are set for the piece. Am I coming in for a longer period?
Let’s talk and design the perfect program for your school!
